It was indeed a sober moment during the last Governing Council meeting of June 10, 2022 as the Chairman, Pastor Dr. Emmanuel Oluwayemi announced that the Provost had joined the Saints Triumphant after a brief illness on the 28th of May 2022. The normal business of the GC was altered as discussions focused mainly on the passing on of WATS 6th Provost – Pastor Oluwafemi O. Martins. Provost Martins had served the Seminary from April 2019 to May 2022.
As part of the outcome of the meeting the GC deliberated and approved Management’s recommendations to give the Provost a befitting burial, which among other things includes the approval of:
- Service of Songs on 29th June, 2022 including the program, video coverage, photographs, refreshments and publishing a compendium in his honor titled “In the Sands of Time”.
- A Scholarship Endowment Fund to be administered by WATS in the Provost’s name.
- The Seminary Administration block to be renamed in his honor on the 29th of June, 2022.
The Funeral arrangements as published by the family for our dear Provost Martins has been slated as follows:
- 29th June 2022 – Service of Songs (3p.m.) @ West Africa Theological Seminary, Ipaja, Lagos36, Olukunle Akinola Street, Akinyele Bus Stop, Ipaja, Lagos.
- 30th June 2022 – Wake keep (4p.m.) @ Emmanuel Unachukwu Hall, Alumni Complex, Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos.
- 1st July 2022 – Lying in State & Funeral Service (10a.m.) Hoares Memorial Methodist Cathedral321 Herbert Macauley Way, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos. Internment @ Atan Cemetery, Yaba.
- 3rd July 2022 – Outing Service (10a.m.) Methodist Church Nigeria, Lagos Diocese, Igbogila-Ipaja Circuit, 151a Ipaja Ayobo Road, Ipaja-Lagos.
